Xibalba - Invierno

Xibalba just released a new song of their upcoming LP Tierra Y Libertad, titled "Invierno." Although they have stepped even further away from hardcore and more into the realm of death metal, I can still hear their hardcore roots and sound from their first release and I love it. I'm a fan of their entire discography so far and I hope they keep at it and continue making solid tracks. Also, being on a label like Southern Lord was bound to catch up with them and I think they took that influence and made a hell of an impact on hardcore and death metal.

Here is that track, released on Noisey

Shrapnel (UK) - Frenzied State

UK's Shrapnel released Frenzied State just in time to make my top releases of 2014. It consists of members of Obstruct and Violent Reaction so you know its going to rule. Its like they took a time machine back to the 80's, took the cheese off Jeff Perlin's Big Mac, brought it back to the UK and aged it for like 30 years. Now the cheese is mature and oh so delicious.
For those of you who don't like cheese, this record is really great.

Mizery - Survive the Vibe

Finally the full release is here and I can take the promo off repeat. I've posted about Mizery before when I listened to their promo which consisted of 2 tracks from this EP but now I have listened to all 5 songs and I am extremely stoked on this band. Being a huge fan of Fire & Ice, I can't help but dig this band and their perfect brew of their F&I, Cold World, and Crown of Thornz influences. Super groovy, yet heavy- hitting, this bands riffs will tear you to fucking shreds. Do yourself a favor.

They are also playing GameChanger World in Howell on December 2nd as part of the California Takeover Tour with Soul Search, Fury, Forced Order, and Blind Justice to host the Californians. Violent Situation dropped unfortunately but I'm personally more stoked on Mizery so come check out all of those bands.

Dilate - Demo 2014

Dilate is a new band that formed out of other bands like Seasick, Razorheads, Ugly Parts, and Bible Thumper and you can clearly hear the influences from those bands, and more. FFO:D-beat, crusty riffs, Japanese punk, and straight up raw pillaging music. The demo is just under 5 minutes long with track titles such as "Unyielding Wrath" and "Human Cost," and makes me really wish I could get my hands on a demo or some lyrics. They are playing a show on December 5th at the Cooler Ranch in New Brunswick with Red Death, Shrapnel (UK). and Big Bad Wolf, which I am super stoked for.

Nine of Swords - I Can't Stand My Own Face

If done right, it can be really refreshing to hear a woman's voice in a hardcore-punk band. I think its about time we got more of that female touch around here and this band is a great example of that. One of my friends showed me this band an I was blown away! Between the vocals, the lyrics, raw energy, and the great pairing of the drums and bass, you find slow Pelican-esque head bobbing melodies that really make you groove. Hardcore, punk, screamo, skramz, whatever you want to call it, it rules and you should check them out.

Black SS - Animals

Crazy-fast, blistering, and full of rage are some of the few characteristics that come to mind when talking about the Black Sheep Squadron. Birthed from the Syracuse hardcore scene, Black SS is for fans of Negative Approach and Uniform Choice, professional wrestling, and other people that are equally pissed off. Animals is their first release since 2008 and is being put out on tape on the Bleeding Edges label (The Flex, Brain Slug, Altered Boys, Protester). You can listen to and download the tape on the Black SS bandcamp or the Bleeding Edges bandcamp, and you can also buy the tape and others on the Bleeding Edges Big Cartel.

Overcast - Discography

Overcast was an amazing early 90's metalcore band from Boston, Massachusetts fronted by Brian Fair from the more popular band Shadows Fall. In the 7 years that they played they released a few 7" records and 3 full lengths with the last one (Reborn to Kill Again, 2008) being a re-release of old tracks and two unrecorded songs.
They briefly reunited in 2006 at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and announced the release of Reborn to Kill Again. Even more recently they reunited once again at This Is Hardcore 2014 where I heard their music for the first time and was instantly blown away. Knowing nothing about Overcast I curiously asked my friend what the vocalist of Shadows Fall was doing up on stage during sound check. The room was full and they really set it off making it my favorite set of this years fest. During their set they announced another release of their discography coming out on Bullet Tooth titled "Only Death is Smiling" which will feature 45 tracks across 3 CD's and is speculated to be released in the fall or late 2014. This is a collection of their 7" and 12" releases along with some splits and a live set.

Uppercut - Collection

Uppercut was a NYHC band from the Bronx during the late 80's and early 90's. I just listened to this for the first time the other day and was wondering why I haven't heard of them sooner. They sound very similar to Outburst and Breakdown, and the guitarist has also played for bands like Side by Side and Judge.

Waste Management - Get Your Mind Right EP

Another awesome band out of Boston, Waste Management, released this EP in 2007 on Pain Killer Records.

Alert - Demo 08

Straight Edge Youth Crew from Western Massachusetts on Six Feet Under Records and Life to Live Records.

Dumptruck - Feelin' Good Demo 2003

Aka The Wrong Side. I don't really know what you want me to say about them besides the fact that most people consider to be one of the best Lockin' Out releases ever. Listen for yourself.

Youth of Today - Live in Toronto

The almighty Youth of Today from Connecticut, but basically a surrogate of the New York Hardcore scene. This is a bootleg of their live show in Toronto on  August 15th, 1986.

This is a live video of the show.

Ten Yard Fight - Hardcore Pride

Straight Edge Youth Crew band from Boston, Ten Yard Fight followed up their demo with a 1995 release of Hardcore Pride on the Big Wheel Recreation label. Their last show on October 17th, 1999 has been dubbed National Edge Day and has been celebrated every year since. The show also featured Bane, In My Eyes, Reach the Sky, and Floorpunch.

Sick Symptom - Demo 2014

Featuring members of Wrong Answer and Modern Pain, Sick Symptom's demo hit the streets not too long ago and left some hot burnout marks. Awesome lyrics and vocals that are very similar to Wrong Answer but it's faster and more raw.

Blind Justice/Heavy Chains Split

Two of the biggest bands from the current Shore Style 2014 roster are
putting together a split on Bad Rep Records and Mass Movement. If you
don't already know that these bands rule then educate yourself and pre-order
this split. Blind Justice played two new songs at the Old Wounds record
release show at the Meatlocker, and they ripped!

Wadge - Grindcore Lu'au

Well I didn't expect to write a third post tonight, but I have a true gem here.
Wadge is a Canadian grindcore band who write songs about Hawaii. Their
blend of grindcore, thrash, d-beat, crust, punk, surf punk, and hardcore is a
truly difficult feat that Wadge has accomplished. Not that anyone else is
competing for that title. I feel like this is the greatest thing in the world.

Slugga - Demo

A fucking ass kicking punk band from Atlanta will make you want to
stomp all over your bedroom. What more do I need to say?

Jukai - MMXIV

90's metalcore inspired 5 piece from Long Island, Jukai released
their second tape on the greatest label on the planet RTF Records.
These guys play some truly awesome and heavy music and they deserve
every bit of recognition they get. Check them out soon on a Long Island
Hardcore Compilation coming out in early 2015 too.

Help the band and RTF Records out and buy the tape.

Code Orange - I Am King

The extremely anticipated record by the all grown up Code Orange
Kids, I Am King is finally here. I slept on this band and didn't get into
them until I saw their set at This Is Hardcore where they blew me the fuck
away. Don't make the same mistake I did and have a listen and then order it.
This record is going to set trends.

Dalton McGraw/Out of Hand

This is my boy Dalton, I met him last year at This is Hardcore and I hung out
with him every day at this years fest. He lives in Detroit and he's not dead. That's
because he has a black belt in Mosh-Kwan Fu and he spin kicks muggers into the
stratosphere. Dalton is a local legend and hero, often saving children from burning
buildings by quickly posi jumping through the windows. His favorite band is Freedom,
and he does interviews. Check them out.

Dalton also drums in a band called Out of Hand. They rule.

Power Trip - new song [NEW SONG]

Flatspot Records is putting out Vol. 2 of the Extermination comp and today
they released Power Trip's new song This World. It fucking rules. Check it out.

Also check out the other songs on the compilation and preorder it!

I only got through my 7" records but soon I'll upload all of my 12", my CD's, and all 6
of my tapes. I don't know how many of you actually read this but if you do then check it

A St. Louis band, Perfect People, is debuting their first record on Belgian
Just Another Day Records. Perfect People is for fans of Count Me Out, Right
Brigade, Have Heart, Sinking Ships,Straight Edge, Youth Crew, and the Mongoloids.

Hit List - Demo II Pay in Blood

I haven't been this excited about a band in a long time. South Florida
Straight Edge Hardcore band Hit List is probably my new favorite band.
They are like the drill sergeants of straight edge and will literally scare
you out of breaking edge.

Pay in blood
For every promise you broke
Kick you while you're down
Your life's a god damn joke.

Simple yet heavy riffs, terrifying bench press murder vocals, doomsday grenade
launcher breakdowns, and nightmarish lyrics. This band is fucking perfect.

Nailed to the X
That's what you said
Now I'll take a fucking hammer
To the side of your head
Listen to their other stuff too.

Menace 2 Society - Demo 2014

Yeah so I just stumbled upon this demo. Its some crazy, dark, metallic,
fucked up, trashy, hardcore shit.

Don't look me in the eye
Don't fuck with them nor me
Don't try to cross our path
I'll put you in your fucking seat

Don't fucking cross me!

Old Wounds - Dead Beat Blues

Holy fuck, Old Wounds just put up a new track from their upcoming
full length on Good Fight. New to the roster, Old Wounds will release
Death Projection on September 16th this year. I've been a fan of this
band ever since they started playing and they consistently release awesome
fucking music even though their sound has changed over the years. Keep
an eye out for this band.

Cold Wolrd - How the God's Chill

Cold World's first record since 2008, How the God's Chill, is a fucking
awesome record. Available August 5th on Deathwish Inc. Also they played
a really tight set at This is Hardcore! Do I really need to say more? It's Cold World.

Pain Strikes - Demo 2013

Inspired by bands like Carry On, Right Brigade, and Youth of Today, Pain Strikes
wrote a demo that you should listen to. This band has a pretty interesting mix of inspirations
which makes for a unique and awesome sound.

Straight Razor - Straight Razor

Straight Razor is a New Bandfrom New Bedford Massachusetts which will soon be
releasing 6 songs on REACT! Records. Check this fucking 2 song demo and tell me
it's not awesome.

Rude Awakening - Collateral Damage

Recently signed to Bridge Nine Records, Rude Awakening is releasing their first
full length LP titled Collateral Damage. The first time I listened to them was when
they played Strife's record release with Down to Nothing, Mother of Mercy, Soul
Search, and more. In my opinion they stole the show and ever since then I've been
really into them. They always play awesome shows and exceed my expectations.
The full album is up for stream and it kicks ass. Check it.

Hounds of Hate - Hate Springs Eternal

This shit came out of nowhere, I had no clue they were even writing new material.
I fell in love with their self titled and I am beyond excited that they wrote more
music. Seriously check this out! If you liked Ashkenazi, then you'll like this too.

Blacklisted - 2 New Songs

Blacklisted is my favorite hardcore band of all time and they played 2 new songs
at their last show in NYC @ Le Poisson Rouge with The Rival Mob, Stick Together,
World War 4, Disengage, Give, and No Tolerance. These are the two songs from
the Hate5Six recording of their set.

Download

And this is the set in case you want to watch it. Beautifully recorded as always by Hate5Six

Drug Control - Demo 2014

NYHC brought to you by San Diego. Drug Control is a sXXXe Youth Crew band
for fans of SSD, Agnostic Front, and Warzone. They scream about macho assholes,
stupid addicts, and drinking and driving. Educate yourself.

And here is their rough cut of a YOT cover

Wasted Struggle - Plaguebringer

Its a little different from the stuff I normally post but you'll understand why once
you listen to it. Wasted Struggle is a blackened punk band from Budapest, Hungary.
Sounds like some of the new Old Wounds material or just some straight up black
murder metal. This band needs to be checked out ASAP as possible.

Society Abuse - No Pleasure Demo

Lyrically dark band from Jacksonville, Florida that plays some fast shit. Sounds
sort of like the Backtrack 08 demo but more similar to Tear It Up and a mix
of Born Annoying and Altered Boys. Check them out cause they fucking rule.

Rapid Change - Demo '14

New straight edge youth crew band from Charlotte, North Carolina
yelling about being sick and fucking tired of this world. They are not
happy with you or your bullshit and they are saying it to your face.

Collusion - Demo 2014

How can you go wrong with members of Coke Bust, Misled Youth, and Pure Disgust?
You can't. This band is like a heavier and angrier version of Government Warning
or SOA. Washington D.C. puts out another sweet ass demo. I'm starting to see alot
of good music coming out of there and I'm excited to see what comes next.

Ashkenazi - Nature of the Beast

Punk/thrash/hardcore crossover brought to you buy members of Hounds
of Hate from Braddock, Pennsylvania. I'm pretty sure the vocalist of HoH
is also doing the vocals here cause it sounds awesome, but its a little more
punk sounding. I really hope this record gets the notoriety it deserves.

Mizery - Survive the Vibe Promo

Mizery is an awesome band from the West Coast who just release a promo tape.
For fans of Crown of Thornz, Leeway, Fire & Ice, with Cold World-esque vocals.
Can't go wrong with that. Their 6 song EP is set to come out some
time this year so keep your ears to the ground.
